Raina just wants to be a normal sixth grader. But one night after Girl Scouts she trips and falls, severely injuring her two front teeth. What follows is a long and frustrating journey with on-again, off-again braces, surgery, embarrassing headgear, and even a retainer with fake teeth attached. And on top of all that, there's still more to deal with: a major earthquake, boy confusion, and friends who turn out to be not so friendly.

If you're worried about your "metal mouth," this book is a great self-confidence booster. In Smile, 13-year-old Raina is cycled through rounds of braces, elastics, fake teeth, and the dreaded headgear. After knocking her 2 front teeth out, all Raina wants is to be normal again. But "normal" may take years. And while Raina's dealing with her teeth, she's also going through middle school. Raina faces bullies, high school, crushes, and friend trouble all while going through orthodontic treatment. Thought you had it bad? Just read about what Raina's going through.
